Sustainability of mankind’s needs for resources (energy, raw materials to build, maintain and drive our economies …) requires sustainable and renewable resources. Sustainable resources are replenished naturally at a rate faster than it is consumption (especially by humans) including; solar, wind and tidal. Renewable resources which require careful and strategic long-term planning include; geothermal, timber and reaching just a bit further we can include recyclable items such as some plastics, glass, paper, metal, textiles, electronics, and hopefully trash itself – we will truly be blue when we are able to reuse all of our waste. As the green sciences progress, more of our waste will be reused without contaminating our world and BEP will be there each step of the way.
Evolving Green to Blue means approaching systems from a sustainable perspective. Sustainability in a broad sense is the ability of a system to maintain itself - for example, the movement of planets in our galaxy. Ecological Footprint: an estimate of the amount of biologically productive land and sea area needed to regenerate (if possible) the resources a human population consumes and to absorb and render harmless the corresponding waste, given prevailing technology and current understanding."
